Vineyard Notes: Silvia Altare owns less than 1 hectare in Cerretta. Farming is organic. Silvia only uses copper and copper sulfate if strictly necessary. Organic cow manure from their mountain cows is used to fertilize the vines.
Vinification Notes: The Nebbiolo macerates on the skins for approximately 4-5 days in rotary fermenters with temperature control. The wine ages for 24 months in French barriques. Fermentation occurs naturally with indigenous yeast as does the malolactic fermentation. The wine is not fined, filtered, or clarified. No substances that could modify the color or the structure of the wine is ever used.
Tasting Notes: Cerretta Barolo Riserva shows mature fruit, spice, tobacco, darker fruit, leather, and licorice on the nose. The palate is warm and elegant with hints of mint and spice. Tannins are very fine. This is ideal for red meat dishes, lamb chops, and aged cheese. Cerretta always needs more aging time than her other vineyards, which is why this has been designated a Barolo Riserva.
2013 Vintage Notes: "Less grip than 2010, more freshness than 2011 and more structure than 2012 with delicate, fine tannins." - Decanter 9/2017
