Vintage Notes: The 2017 harvest was accelerated by a heat wave over Labor Day weekend, pushing up sugar levels and forcing Freelander to adapt quickly to rapidly ripening vineyard fruit. Prior to that, even summertime temperatures made for a nice growing season that was kicked off by a moderate spring.

Winemaking Notes: Freelander wines are made in St. Helena, CA, and the grapes are sourced from select vineyards that produce elegant and impressive wines. This 2017 Pinot Noir was aged in French and American oak for ten months, and released in June of 2018.

Tasting Notes: Aged in French and American oak, the 2017 Pinot Noir shows baked cherry and violet in the nose. Crisp flavors of red currant, baking spice and vivid strawberries balance the mouthfeel. A touch of toasted oak completes the gentle finish.

This is a well-made wine that's generous in aromas and flavors. It is a little taut and appetizing in texture and balanced by good acidity. Cinnamon and red-cherry aromas are followed by snappy cherry and raspberry flavors. The wine is medium bodied and lightly tannic.
