About the Estate: Château le Puy is deeply grounded in history and produces wines according to ancient traditions that have proven their value over time. The Amoreau family of Château le Puy has owned the estate since 1610, continuously tending the vineyards now for over 400 years. Today, Jean-Pierre Amoreau and his son, Pascal, oversee the viticulture and vinification. The wines are produced according to organic and biodynamic methods, both in the vineyards and in the cellar. This harkens back to far-away times when “natural” was all that any wine grower could be.

Winemaking Notes: Work in the winery is done according to the lunar calendar. Grapes are manually harvested from 50 year old vines, then are entirely destemmed and left on lees for 2-3 weeks. The wines are created without any added sulfites, sugars or non-indigenous yeast during the fermentation process. Wines mature for 24 months in oak with regular stirring in the barrel scheduled according to the lunar cycle. The 'Emilien' spends a year in 50hl foudres before a year in 228L barrels. The wine is neither fined nor filtered before bottling, which takes place in the middle of the lunar cycle. 'Emilien' is the estate’s most important cuvee in terms of volume.

Tasting Notes: An attractive, bold, garnet red color. The aromas open with very fresh dominant red berries. The opening on the palate is strong with heaps of freshness. The final notes are particularly well balanced with supple tannins, revealing remarkable complexity. This is an extremely harmonious and delicious wine that is sure to delight.
