While originally conceived of as a value wine, Les Terrasses Velles Vinyes has slowly evolved into the essence of what makes Priorat special. Drawing on 15+ years of study, Terrasses is sourced from many of the region's steepest and oldest vineyards—many of them north-facing to avoid the intense afternoon sun.

Fruit Source: Les Terrasses is made from estate grapes and selected lots of purchased old vine Garnacha and Cariñena.

Winemaking Notes: Grapes macerate for 15 days. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats with pumpovers. The wine ages for 12 months in French barrique (20% new). It is bottled without filtration but is fined with egg whites.

"Typical Priorat-heavy blend of Garnacha and Carignan, but with great buoyancy and freshness; hint of slate; persistent in the finish." Read full article.

Reviews

  • The Wine Advocate
    Rating: (92-94) (4/27/2018)

The still unbottled sample of the Garnacha and Cariñena blend 2016 Les Terrasses Velles Vinyes has vibrant acidity in a warm year when ripening stopped as the vines blocked and stopped producing sugar and maintained the acidity. The grapes were small because the year had also been very dry. It's juicy and with good ripeness and some dusty tannins, reminiscent of the dusty roads among the vineyards of Priorat along with that decomposed slate.
  • The Wine Spectator
    Rating: 92 (10/15/2018)

Supple and polished, this fresh red offers bright cherry and plum flavors, with notes of black olive and mountain herb. Light, firm tannins and gentle but bright acidity provide definition. Graceful. Drink now through 2026.

    Rating: 92 (4/25/2019)

Primary, smoke- and mineral-accented aromas of black raspberry, cherry, candied licorice and incense. Densely packed and juicy, with nervy acidity lifting the wine's sweet red/blue fruit, floral pastille and spicecake flavors. Finishes on an emphatic mineral note, with youthfully solid tannins and outstanding, spicy persistence.
