Vintage Notes: 2016 was very dry with few rains in the spring and thanks to the only one rain in July and August, the grapes ripened in perfect conditions.

Winemaking Notes: The Muscat grape is best when planted in the poor, sandy soils of Beaumes de Venise. The grapes for this cuvée are selected after a series of passes through the vineyards to pick the grapes at the proper level of maturity with the desired balance between sugar and acid; a further selection occurs upon entry to the winery. The fermentation, at low temperatures to best preserve the enchanting aromas of the Muscat grape, is stopped at the point where the alcohol to sugar balance is as desired. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeast. After settling, organic alcohol is added (about 7%) to stop the fermentation and preserve the natural grape sugar. The wine spends 3 months in contact with its lees with a total elevage of 12 months. Wine is fined and filtered before bottling.

Tasting Notes:
The Fenouillet Muscat de Beaumes de Venise is a marvel: complex nose of ripe fruits (peaches and citrus) and flowers, ample and harmonious mouthfeel and a long, fresh finish.

    Rating: 92 (11/30/2017)

Faintly coppery in hue, the 2016 Muscat de Beaumes de Venise is simultaneously sweeter yet crisper than many of its peers. It's medium to full-bodied, with melon-like flavors and a bit of citrus on the finish.
