The Willamette Valley Pinot Noir is the flagship J. Christopher wine, representing the overall nature of the vintage in the northern Willamette Valley, rather than a specific vineyard or appellation. It is a cuvée of barrels from three AVAs.
2014 Vintage: 2014 was an excellent growing season, with an exceptional fruit set, dry weather through September, and an abundant harvest of ripe, healthy fruit. It was a rare vintage that gave full ripeness, reasonable alcohol and good acidity. Overall, it was a warm vintage, but the alcohol conversion rates were low, which resulted in wines that are both very ripe and very elegant.
Vineyard Sources: The Pinot Noir is sourced from dry-farmed sites in three Willamette Valley AVAs: Dundee Hills (70%), Eola-Amity Hills (15%) and Chehalem Mountains (15%). Clones include Pommard, Wadenswil, Dijon 115, 114, 667 and 777. The vines are between 6 and 21 years old.
Vinification: Harvest is manual. Grapes are 100% destemmed. Fermentation occurs with native yeast. Wine spends 18 months in barriques (25% new oak).
