Sean Minor, with his wife Nicole, started their Four Bears Winery in 2005. Four Bears is named after their four children: Nick, Elle, Jack and Charlie.

It was not long after Sean and Nicole married that they discovered wine was their second largest monthly expense. After many years of working in the industry, Sean was determined to produce affordable, top caliber, terroir-driven wines from premier appellations throughout California. With Four Bears Winery, Sean and Nicole succeed in producing wines that exceed ones expectation at the price point.

Sean Minor met Nicole while studying for finance at Arizona State University. Together, they moved to California where Sean started working for Napa Valley’s Beaulieu Vineyards. Like many who catch the wine bug, Sean looked beyond his finance background and began taking classes at U.C. Davis in viticulture and oenology. The wine industry was where he’d stay.

Sean and Nicole moved to the Pacific Northwest when Sean was recruited to manage King Estate Winery (widely renown for producing Oregon’s largest and most highly regarded Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris). It was at King Estate Winery where he met winemaker Will Bucklin. They developed a friendship during their time together at the estate. Sean left King Estate to lead Benton Lane Winery. The family returned to California in 2001 for the opportunity to manage Renwood Winery and enhance Sean’s wine experience growing and marketing some of the Golden State’s best Zinfandel and Syrah. Four years later, they founded Sean Minor Wines.

Sean recruited family friend and colleague Will Bucklin to act as his consulting winemaker. Will’s experience and expertise complements Sean’s philosophy of offering wines that exude quality and truly represent the appellation, from which they’re produced, yet are affordable for everyday enjoyment. They collaborate on the selection and blending of all the wines. Will is generous with his time as he also runs his own family winery.

Will Bucklin is a graduate of U.C. Davis' prestigious oenology program and started his career with an internship at the historic and world-renowned Chateau Lafitte Rothschild. A stint with Thomas Hardy in Australia, and Navarro Vineyards in Mendocino, preceded his move to Oregon and King Estate. In 2000, Will moved to his family vineyard in Sonoma Valley where he launched his family's winery.

Reviews

  • Sean Minor 2017 'Four Bears' Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles
    The Wine Spectator
    Rating: 88 (1/31/2019)

Juicy, brimming with blackberry and raspberry confiture flavors, liberally lined with melted licorice and warm fruitcake notes. The finish is coated with ganache accents. An obvious style, but shows energy and will win some fans.
  • Sean Minor 2017 Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast
    The Wine Spectator
    Rating: 89 (6/15/2019)

Hints of dried mint and savory spice accent the fresh, focused McIntosh apple, ripe citrus and melon flavors. Broad and pillowy on the spicy finish. Drink now through 2022.
  • Sean Minor 2018 'Four Bears' Rose, California
    Vinous
    Rating: 88 (8/15/2019)

Light bright orange. Lively, sharply focused red berry, orange pith and floral scents, along with smoky mineral and subtle herbal flourishes. Subtly sweet raspberry and cherry flavors are firmed by a spine of juicy acidity. Clings nicely on the penetrating finish, which leaves floral pastille and mineral notes behind.
