Alba Viticultores is owned by Fernando Angulo who is pushing the boundaries in every direction down in Sanlúcar. Most, if not all of his wines, are made from the Palomino grape from vines planted in albariza soil in Sanlúcar. With or without flor, he produces Palomino in every form possible: mosto, sobre tabla, pet nat and even méthode champenoise. The wines are made with no additives, little to no SO2, indigenous yeast and no fortification. Yes, all of them are unfortified. Call it grower sherry, call it natural sherry, call it what you want. These are some of the most transparent examples of the grape.
Though the name may be confusing as Fernando Angulo is not a grape grower himself, Alba Viticultores is his tribute to the distinctive albariza soil of the region and its grape growers who often go unnoticed. In doing so, they’ve brought the word viticultura back to sherry. The relationships he has built with grape farmers have given them access to some of the most cherished vineyards with which he's making vinos de pago or single vineyard wines, a somewhat lost tradition in the triangle.
