Can Sumoi 2022 'La Rosa' Rose, Penedes DO

As a critic, I have a blind spot, or just plain indifference, for most commercial rosé. But the corollary to that is when rosé hits, it hits in all the right places: transparent to the terroir, light yet intensely flavorful, the most delicate form of red wine that’s irresistible with dinner. This one tastes like the sea and like a summer meadow, with a light, electric acidity that buzzes through the wine’s complexity, the star-fruit and white-peach flavors tumbling through stone. A blend of organically farmed Sumoll and Xarel-lo, growing in limestone high above the Mediterranean in the Serra d l’Home, macerated for four hours on the skins to take on the color of pink gooseberries, then spontaneously fermented, this is a minimal intervention wine that holds its freshness and beauty for days after it’s been opened.
