Terroir Notes: Maçanita’s Douro Branco exemplifies the confluence of richness and elegant minerality that is the hallmark of Douro whites. The indigenous Viosinho provides the backbone to this mineral driven wine, showcasing the slate soil and high altitude plantings that fuel this project. Vines are tended in schist soil at 750 meters in Baixo Corgo, Douro. The average temperature is the lowest in the Douro, and ripeness is often a challenge here, but it also lends an intrinsic freshness to the wine.

Winemaking Notes: Joana Maçanita is a dynamo. Her energy, intense focus and passion for every facet of life are infectious, and nowhere is this more apparent than in the wines she makes. Working with her brother Antonio, Joana sources from old vineyards spread across the three subzones of the Douro Valley. The grapes are hand harvested and whole bunch pressed. Cold fermentation in stainless steel takes place using wild yeasts. The wine is then racked to stainless steel where it ages for 6 months before bottling.

Pairring Suggestions: This would beautifully compliment a whole roasted chicken or fish, Avgolemono soup, or cold pasta salad.

Tasting Notes: On the nose is a salty, nutty, floral, and lemony mix, that turns richer as the wine warms up. Bright up front with citrus peel and green apple, rounded in the back with a touch of lemon curd, this wine is like warming your face in the morning sun on a cold winter day. Simply delicious.

This is the winery's version of a classic fresh white, bright, a bit fruit forward and with perfect balance. It has enough concentration to go with the beautiful supporting acidity. The fruit is tasty too, but this is acid driven.
