Terroir Notes: Yecla is located about 80 miles southwest of Valencia. Alberto Orte cultivates vines in the highest part of the region. The territory is known as Campo Arriba and contains Yecla's great concentration of pure chalk soil along with the oldest Monastrell vines. The vines for Elo are ungrafted and were planted in 1973.
Winemaking Notes: The grapes are manually harvested. 100% whole cluster, the grapes macerate for 28 days in open top vessels. Fermentation occurs with wild yeast. The wine ages in 2-year-old 500-liter French oak barrels for 12 months combined with another year in a 2,000-liter cement tank without a liner. After bottling, the wine ages for 8 months before release.
Tasting Notes: On the nose, it exhibits a refined dark berry note. Appealing sweet cherry and cassis flavors show on the palate. There is depth and energy. It finishes long and smooth. Elo is a great example of how elegant and refined Monastrell can be.

"The impressive 2017 Elo is varietal, rich and powerful but polished and with a rustic elegance. It's a bit older, so it has some developed and tertiary aromas, and the tannins are mostly resolved. It has a chalky texture and a long finish."
