Vineyard Notes: Pinot Nero, also called Pinot Noir, originates from Burgundy and has been cultivated in South Tyrol for more than a century. The grapes for this lovely wine are sourced from warm and ventilated sites on Renon and in Oberleitach. These sites are located around the town of Bolzano.

Vinification Notes: Fermentation occurs in stainless steel, and then the wine partly matures in wooden casks.

Tasting Notes: This is a full to medium bodied, fruity, velvety, medium-bodied red with a light tannic structure. The nose shows fruity, floral aromas of red cherries, raspberries, plums and violets with a light spicy licorice note. There is also an herbal, spice rack character with a hint of pepper. The palate is deliciously fruity with pleasant acidity and nice, incorporated tannins.

Pairing Notes: Pair with mature cheeses, beef, lamb, and duck.

The 2019 Blauburgunder Pinot Nero from Kellerei Bozen is incredibly pretty in the glass, displaying a brilliant translucent ruby color. It’s fresh and floral, showing peppery herbs, giving way to bright cherry-berry fruits with a hint of youthful reduction. The textures here are quite pleasant, silky yet with a balancing blend of saline-minerals and tart acids that add a tactile feel. Spicy red berry fruits resonate through the close, along with a hint of fine tannin that promises a few years of positive evolution.
