Vineyard Notes: Vines are sourced from the Rio Sordo MGA; they were planted between 1958 and 1978.

Winemaking Notes: The skins remain in contact with the must during fermentation, which that lasts between 28-30 days. Fermentation occurs naturally with native yeast. Malolactic fermentation completes in the cellar at temperature of 20°C (68°F). The wine ages in large traditional Slavonian and Swiss oak casks for 20 months and matures in the bottle for at least 8 months. No filtration or clarification is done.

Tasting Notes: Clean and sharp. Aromas include dark fruits, Mediterranean scrub and undergrowth. The palate shows dense tannin, good structure, and depth; it is very elegant with a long persistent finish.

A release of about 3,000 bottles, the 2018 Barbaresco Rio Sordo shows the finesse and delicate fruit that is so well expressed by this estate. The bouquet is redolent of rose hip and crushed flowers, and you get cassis, wild cherry and dried pomegranate as well. There is a giant layer of minty herb, and then the wine finally relaxes with polished tones of crushed stone and white licorice. Cascina delle Rose makes a fine bottle of Barbaresco.
