Vineyard Notes: While the Zinfandel in Post Flirtation Red 2019 came from the Sierra Foothills and had acid-driven verve and fresh red fruit, the Zinfandel in 2020 hails from Contra Costa in a heritage old vine planting now farmed by the 6th generation of Del Barbas. The mark of Del Barba’s terroir, no matter the variety, is a savory garrigue note. As a result, 2020 PF Red has a more savory quality to balance the bright fruit, like a perfect hibiscus agua fresca.
- Zinfandel from Del Barba Vineyard, Oakley, CA; dry farmed on sand (like walking on a beach)
- Carignan from Ricetti Vineyard, Mendocino County; planted in 1948; certified organic; dry farmed on gravelly loam
Vinification Notes: Carignan and Zinfandel, both 100% destemmed, fermented separately and aged in stainless steel tanks for 6 months before blending and bottling unfined and unfiltered.
Sulfites: Free SO2 4mg/L, total SO2 31mg/L
Vintage Notes: The Zinfandel fruit that goes into Post Flirtation Red was picked before any fires in California. Ricetti Carignan, the other half of Post Flirtation Red 2020, came in mere hours after the Willits fire broke out in Mendocino County but saw no time on the skins and was pressed gently.
Fun Fact: Martha’s husband, Jon Patch, drew the label and came up with the name after their first few dates.
