Vineyard Notes: Les Terrasses is made from estate grapes and selected lots of purchased old vine Garnacha and Cariñena. This wine is made from over 100 small parcels in nine different villages throughout Priorat. Alvaro has long talked about how the early monks prized north-facing vineyards, but one more factor he’s been pursuing is the monks’ love of vineyards that capture the garbinada – the afternoon sea breeze off the Mediterranean. These vineyards tend to thrive in many conditions including drought.

Winemaking Notes:
Grapes macerate between 15 and 30 days. Les Terrasses ferments spontaneously with native yeast in a mix of stainless, cement, and open-top wooden vats with punching-down and/or pumpover. The wine ages for 10-13 months in French barriques (20% new). Malolactic fermentation occurs. It is bottled without filtration.

Shimmering violet. Expressive aromas of cherry, blueberry and pipe tobacco pick up floral and exotic spice nuances with aeration. Concentrated yet energetic in the mouth, offering red and blue fruit, floral pastille and candied licorice flavors sharpened by smoky mineral and spice flourishes. Fine-grained tannins give shape to a very long, spicy finish that leaves a sappy blue fruit note behind.

It keeps the more rustic side of their wines but with the finesse of 2018. It's a wine marked by a high percentage of Cariñena, but it's velvety, fresh and harmonious but with the dustier tannins. This is the British farmer, rustic but elegant with his Land Rover, the Wellington boots, corduroy trousers and a Barbour jacket... but with a Priorat twang.
