Tasting Notes: Valtellina Superiore Pizaméj is a complex and savory red wine, yielded from a specific vineyard area, respectfully one of Barbacàn's crus. It deeply communicates the properties of the terroir with bouquets of red fruits, red flowers, wild spices, and clean tobacco. The taste is sophisticated, fresh, energetic, and delicious.
Area of Origin: Valtellina Superiore Valgella wines are those made under the Valtellina Superiore DOCG, specifically within the Valgella subregion. Valgella is one of five viticulture subzones identified as producing Valtellina wines of particularly high quality: the other four are Inferno, Sassella, Grumello and Maroggia.
Harvest: The Chiavennasca (local name for Nebbiolo) grapes are manually harvested in 20 kg baskets, which are loaded on the shoulders like backpacks for ease of walking up and down the steep, stone steps.
Aging: 12 months in big Austrian oak barrels
Vinification: Spontaneous fermentation occurs with indigenous yeast in steel tanks and maceration for 90 days. The wine ages for 12 months in big Austrian oak barrels. It is bottle without fining, filtration and with low sulfites.
