Les Lézardes Syrah is Rostaing's gorgeous IGP red that is sourced from various parcels from the norther edge of Côte-Rôtie. There is also some fruit coming from a vineyard in Tupin that the estate replanted in 2006. The grapes are manually harvested. Maceration lasts between 7-20 days depending on vintage. Rostaing likes to use a majority of whole clusters during fermentation. The wine ages in a combination of older barrels before release.

Wine Advocate 12/2019 "...don't neglect the IGP and Languedoc offerings being made by Rostaing. Sure, by comparison to the family's top offerings from Côte Rôtie, they're mere teases, but they're tasty, fun-to-drink wines that typically sell for realistic prices."

Jeb Dunnuck 12/2019 "In addition to the Côte Rôties, don’t miss a chance to try the Languedoc and Collines Rhodaniennes releases. Both represent terrific wines as well as value."

This cuvée has impressed the past couple of vintages. The 2018 IGP Collines Rhodaniennes les Lezardes Syrah is fragrant and fruit driven, with attractive scents of raspberries, blackberries and licorice. It's medium to full-bodied, with solid tannic clout on the finish that lets you know this isn't just another easy-drinking Syrah.

Always a solid wine from this great estate, the 2018 Vin De Pays Des Collines Rhodaniennes Les Lezardes is all Syrah and has a classic Northern Rhône vibe in its peppery herbs, dark fruits, and earthy nuances. It’s medium-bodied, balanced, and well worth purchasing.

Aromas of ripe dark fruit, spicecake, succulent herbs and candied flowers; a smoky mineral element adds verve. Sweet, palate-coating blueberry, dark cherry, allspice and smoky bacon flavors deepen steadily as the wine opens up. Broad, seamless and lively in character, finishing with strong, spicy cut and mounting tannins that meld slowly with the wine's lingering fruit.
