Vineyard Notes: Dolcetto fruit is harvested by hand from Guyot trained, south southeast and northwest-facing vines in the Barracone and San Fereolo vineyards in the Valdibà subsection of Dogliani. Dogliani is located immediately south of Barolo in the Langhe. The Dogliani DOCG is home to some of the greatest Dolcetto vineyards in Piedmont, and this appellation accounts for the majority of the estate’s 12 hectares under vine. The oldest Dolcetto vines were planted in 1936, while the youngest date back to 1978. The finest sources are destined for the flagship San Fereolo cuvée, while the balance of the Dolcetto vines comprise the Valdibà bottling.

Winemaking Notes: After total destemming and crushing, wine ferments spontaneously in stainless-steel tanks. Cuvaison lasts 8 days. Wine remains on lees for 4 months following spontaneous fermentation, including malolactic. It is then blended and aged for 12 months in stainless-steel tanks. The 'Valdiba' is bottled without being fined.

Tasting Notes: A youthful expression of the Dogliani DOCG, the Valdibà Dolcetto is made all in steel tanks, which shows in the fresh brightness of the wine. Nicoletta considers this to be classical Dolcetto, striking all of the notes one would expect from the variety, with a confident tannic backbone. Valdibà is the Dogliani subzone where Nicoletta's estate is located.
