Vintage Notes: A wet, but warm spring with a few mild frosts during late April and fewer than average heat spikes. Near-record precipitation amounts during late June and early July brought increased disease pressure to the region. The vintage will be remembered for the early rains in September and rapid cool down into October which challenged harvesting decisions. The cool vintage came largely from substantially lower maximum temperatures while minimum temperatures were near average to slightly above average. A classic Oregon vintage!
Vineyard Notes: The 2019 'Runaway Red' is comprised of Pinot Noir grapes from 10 different vineyards: Muska-Bement, Muska, Crannell, La Chenaie, Sunset View, Crawford, Cortell-Rose, Temperance Hill, Yamhill, and Sunset Ridge.
Winemaking Notes: Pinot Noir fruit was hand sorted and 100% destemmed. Fermentation occured spontaneously with native yeast. The 'Runaway Red' was aged for 10 months in French oak barrels. Filtration was cross-flow.
Tasting Notes: This is an approachable and easy-drinking Pinot Noir with expressive notes of red fruits and an earthy finish of neroli oil and walnut bark. On the nose, aromas include nereoli oil, red raspberry bramble, sweet bay, walnut bark and shiitake, Enjoys notes of pomegrante syrup, watermelon rind and sarsaparilla.
