Vineyard Notes: Grapes are sourced from Gonzalez Bastias' 200-year-old dry farmed, horse plowed vinyard, planted in 1815, as well as a neighbor's vineyard planted in the early 1960s. The soil is composed of river sand on top of granite bedrock. The vineyard is located on the bank of the Maule River, about 40 kilometers from the coast.
Winemaking Notes: Grapes are manually harvested. The fruit is pressed by hand over traditional bamboo zarandas into open top vats. The Moscatel and Torontel macerate on the skins for 60 days before the Pais juice is added. The three varietals are cofermented with native yeasts. The wine then ages for 6 months in large, 100 year old Rauli (native Chilean wood) barrels. No additives or sulfur are added. Wine is unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Notes: Peaches and orange peal with a juicy mouthfeel. Mineral with medium acidity and a long lasting finish. Best paired with spicy, sweet and sour, creamy, and sweet dishes.
