Vineyard Notes: The Nebbiolo grapes are sourced from Perno, on Santo Stefano hill in the village of Monforte d’Alba, and various vineyards in Castiglione Falletto. The Mascarellos practice natural viticulture; no chemical pesticides or fertilizers are used in the vineyards. The vines are pruned to limit yields. All harvesting is done by hand.
Winemaking Notes: The winemaking shows the utmost respect for the terrior. Traditional-style, floating cap fermentation occurs of selected estate-grown grapes for 15-20 days with native yeast. The wine is then matured in medium-sized Slavonian oak barrels for around 6-8 months. Mascarello bottles the Langhe Nebbiolo two years after the vintage.
91pts (2017 Vintage) Wine Advocate 6/28/2019
"The 2017 Langhe Nebbiolo opens to a light garnet color that reflects the heat of the vintage (the Nebbiolo grape tends to produce a pale color as those temperatures increase), but the wine's appearance is due to darken and gain in color saturation as the wine spends a little more time in bottle. The bouquet is also poised to open with deeper layers of blueberry, spice and violets."
