Aging Notes: Firehouse Red is aged in 40% new oak barrels, mostly French and American oak with a touch of Hungarian oak, and 60% 2nd and 3rd vintage barrels.

Winemaking Notes: The grapes are gently crushed and dropped into 1.5 ton bins, cold soaked 24 to 48 hours, then inoculated with a variety of yeasts, hand-punched, and pressed directly to barrel, where the wine finishes both primary and secondary fermentation. Only after one year in barrel do the individual lots of wine that compose the Firehouse Red get blended.

Tasting Notes: Tamarack Firehouse Red shows dark fruit on the nose, including ripe raspberry and blackberry with notes of cocoa, anise and a soft, round midpalate. Grippy tannins give way to black cherry and baking spices with herbal notes, followed by sweet BBQ sauce ribs, and oregano with relaxed, dusty tannins.

The 2017 Firehouse Red is a crazy blend of 33% Syrah, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Mourvèdre, Grenache, Counoise, Sangiovese, and Petit Verdot. As always, it's a great value and has loads of ripe red and black fruits, spice, and dried flower aromas as well as a kiss of classy oak, medium body, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It's a year-in, year-out no brainer.
