Vineyard Notes: Scribe began farming this Carneros vineyard in 2007. The vineyard is planted to equal parts Martini and Pommard clones and is one mile from the Scribe estate. The Huichica loam soil and cool Carneros climate ripen the Pinot Noir at a steady, gradual pace.
Vintage Notes: After several years of drought and the North Bay fires at the end of the 2017 harvest, the 2018 vintage was a welcome return to "normal." The winter was cool and with steady rainfall that delayed bud break by about 3-4 weeks compared to the previous years of drought and irregularly warm winters. The flowering period had a minimal amount of rain and wind which provided for nearly ideal fruit set. The rest of the growing season consisted of cool and foggy mornings that allowed for the grapes to ripen slowly. 2018 was the Scribe's longest harvest to-date starting on August 22nd and ending on October 30th.
Winemaking Notes: Harvesting began on September 11th and finished on September 29th. All lots were fermented with native yeast and with varying degrees of whole cluster. The wine was aged for 7 months in IOo/o concrete, 15% new French oak, and 76% neutral French oak, then bottled, unfined and unfiltered, on April 19, 2019.
Tasting Notes: Bay laurel, cranberries, pink peppercorn
