Vineyard Notes: Scribe's Sonoma Coast Syrah is sourced from their friend Stephen Singer’s unique site in the cool-climate Sebastopol Hills AVA. Tucked into the rolling hills southwest of Sebastopol, this cool, maritime-influenced area and it’s extreme biodiversity provides for a vibrant and focused expression of California Syrah. The slow ripening means more flavor, more freshness, more energy, and less alcohol. A wide array of clonal choices, dense planting, organic farming, and an overall artisanal agricultural approach results in a vineyard of great distinction.
Vintage Notes: After much needed, record-breaking winter rains lingered into early spring, the vines came out of dormancy in March. Wet soils and mild temperatures moved the vines through to veraison with ease, before several heat waves jump started an early, quick harvest.
Winemaking Notes: Harvested on October 5th, Scribe made 4 different wine lots of Syrah; one with all destemmed grapes, one with 25% whole cluster, one with 50% whole cluster, and one with 100% whole cluster. All of the lots were combined at the time of blending to craft this Sonoma Coast Syrah. The wine was aged in large format neutral French oak puncheons for 12 months, bottling on October 25th, 2018.
Tasting Notes: Enjoy notes of black cherry, olive and black pepper.
