Vineyard Notes: Scribe farms two Pinot Noir vineyards just a mile down the road from their farm; Pathi Vineyard off Burndale Road and Sandbacb Vineyard off Napa Road. Pathi is planted to Pinot Noir clone 777 while Sandbacb is a mix of Martini and Pommard clones. The vineyards' proximity to the San Pablo Bay and oncoming winds through the Petaluma Gap provide for a temperature moderating effect for the Pinot Noir grapes during the warm summer months.
Vintage Notes: Northern California experienced another cool and wet winter which kept the vines dormant through late March/Early April. The springtime brought a mix of heat spells followed by cool and wet weather. Initial predictions were for a later harvest, but the warm summer months hastened the growing cycle of the vines. Harvest started at Scribe on August 14th with rosé of Pinot Noir and ended with the Atlas West Cabernet Sauvignon in mid-October.
Winemaking Notes: The Pinot Noir was harvested by hand and foot tread to release some of the juice and allow for some skin contact prior to it being whole cluster pressed. After 24 hours of cold setting, the juice was racked off gross lees to begin fermenting. The wine underwent native fermentation in a stainless steel tank and was bottled on November 18th, 2019 with 159 g/L of residual sugar. Fermentation finished in bottle over the following weeks. No disgorgement necessary.
Tasting Notes: This Rosé of Pinot Noir Pét Nat has notes of hibiscus, raspberry leaf and pomegranate.
