The Antonelli Montefalco Sagrantino Passito is a sweet wine made from semi-dried grapes.
Winemaking Notes: The grapes are hand-picked and placed in crates in single layers. The bunches most suited for drying are specially selected. The grapes then dry in crates for 55 days. Fermentation occurs in contact with the skins. Maceration lasts for about 10 days. Aging occurs in 22-hectoliter oak barrels for 12-24 months depending on vintage. The wine settles in glass-lined cement vats for 36 months and is bottle-aged for another 12 months before release.
Tasting Notes: This wine is a rich ruby color tending towards garnet. The nose is rich and complex, with notes of cherries, wild berry jam, candied citrus peel and spices. To the taste, it’s an amazing wine, where it begins sweet and then gives way to a fresh finish with an aromatic persistence to the nose. It can be enjoyed with red fruit tarts, biscuits, chocolate and mature cheeses.
