Vineyard Notes: The Grenache, Syrah, and Carignan grapes are sourced from three separate terroirs: the stony silex-infused plateau of Saint Hippolyte, the silex dominated soils of the hill of Piniere in Aubignan, and the clay-limestone mix in the soils of the commune of Barroux.
Winemaking Notes: All parcels are harvested and vinified separately. Clusters are 100% destemmed, followed by a 16 day maceration with daily pump-over and punch-down. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeast in concrete tanks. The final Ventoux Rouge blend is created before the bottling, which occurs prior to the next year’s harvest. Sulfur additions at bottling are kept to a minimum.
Vintage Notes by Wine Advocate 9/10/2020 : "The 2018 growing season started warm and wet, and some of the vineyards struggled with mildew, although it was generally worse at the lower altitudes found closer to the Rhône proper. The weather around harvest time was ideal, making for wines that show plenty of fruit and an attractive, early-drinking character allied to ample concentration."
