Tasting Notes: The nose on this is super interesting and complex: tangerine, pickled jalapeño, lilac, white pepper, pear. The signature Slobodne "good herbaceousness" is present, which is reminiscent of horseradish and pickled wasabi. The light-bodied palate is floral and spicy, which is a fun and unique flavor profile.

About the Devín Grape: The Devín grape was created in 1958 by crossing the floral Gewurztraminer grape with the peppery Roter Veltliner. It was named after the Devín Castle near Bratislava. It was originally grown in the Czech Republic and authorized in Slovakia in 1997. According to the book Wine Grapes, Devín "produces full-bodied, low-acid, lightly aromatic—spicy, fruity, and floral—wines." It is also susceptible to botrytis, which can produced wines of spicy, honeyed aroma and flavor.
