Winemaking Notes: The Montepulciano grapes are manually harvested. The bunches are destemmed, crushed in the hydraulic press (basket press), and transferred into the amphorae where it remains in contact with the skins through the end of the alcoholic fermentation (10-15 days). Fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeast. The cap is softly soaked once a day. After primary fermentation, the wine is racked from the skins and put back into amphorae where it remains, resting on the fine lees, through the completion of the malolactic fermentation. After which, it is racked one more time to mature in stainless steel until bottling. Sulfite additions are minimal and vary with vintage.

Tasting Notes: The Cirelli Montepulciano Anfora is youthfully concentrated with dark fruit and brisk, intense tannins that give it a rich, tarry, impacted feel. Nose exhibits bramble, mulberry, and elderberry with a light hint of tar and mocha. There’s plenty of energy in the fruit to keep it fresh as those tannins mellow. For the cellar.
