Vintage Notes: 2017 was another in a string of growing seasons with warm summers. Fortunately, at the end there was a bit of a cool down which helped preserve acidity and structure. Unlike in 2016, the cooling spell lasted around three weeks. The resulting wines are significantly more focused than the 2016’s and show very nice structure and ageability, with a core of ripe, plump fruit.
Vineyard Notes: Grapes are sourced in nearly equal parts from four dry-farmed, certified organic vineyards: Cancilla, Björnson, Croft, and Freedom Hill. The vines are between 10 and 21 years old. These vineyards were chosen for their ability to represent the soils of the Willamette Valley.
Winemaking Notes: The wine fermented spontaneously with native yeasts. The grapes macerated for 21 days, seeing twice-daily punchdowns. The wine was aged for 16 months in French oak (10% new).
Tasting Notes: Haden Fig's 2017 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir flashes with red and black fruits with a zesty medium-plus body and finishes with a humming baseline of earth.
