Vintage Notes: In 2017, higher than average rainfall brought the five year drought to an end. A cool and rainy winter tallied 30 inches of rain by the end of February. With March and April came sunshine and even more showers. A hotter than average summer made everyone very grateful for the previous winter’s rain. Harvest progressed rapidly during a heat wave in late August and early September. Temperatures cooled mid-September, slowing the harvest pace and allowing red grapes to ripen gradually.

Winemaking Notes: After careful cluster sorting, 50% of the clusters were destemmed. After a 3-day cold soak, the grapes were nurtured through fermentation with daily pigeage and pump overs. 100% of the wine rested in neutral oak, 88% puncheon and 22% barrique.

Tasting Notes: This vintage has a purity of fruit, richness and overall yumminess. A blend of MAHA Estate and Luna Matta, Garnacha is 50% whole cluster and was aged in older French barrels. The nose boasts aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry, pomegranate, cinnamon and anise. Elegant and seamless, the palate transcends to another level offering a mouthful of pure pleasure. Medium to full-bodied, the purity and precision of fruit here make for a wine that will be hard to keep your hands off. Someone recently said that Grenache delivers everything that Pinot Noir promises. Blind taste your Pinot-loving friends on this wine and they will be just might be sold on Grenache! Save some for the cellar as you will be rewarded in the long run. Drink 2019-2029.

A wine that seems to deliver year in and year out, the 2017 Garnacha offer a more translucent ruby/plum color as well as classic Grenache notes of kirsch liqueur, black licorice, ground herbs, dried flowers, and earth. It's medium-bodied and elegant, with nicely integrated acidity and fine tannins. It's going to benefit from a year in bottle and keep for 7-8.

Shimmering ruby-red. Spice-accented raspberry, cherry preserve and floral pastille aromas are complemented by a suggestion of exotic spices that builds in the glass. Juicy, palate-caressing red fruit liqueur, spicecake and floral pastille flavors convey a compelling blend of depth and delicacy. Finishes with superb, mineral- and spice-driven intensity, the harmonious tannins supporting lingering red fruit and floral notes. This suave wine was made with 40% whole clusters and raised in puncheons, 25% of them new.
