Vineyard Notes: Domaine Grosbois' wines are made from the Cabernet Franc grape, grown on limestone bedrock with soils consisting of mostly clay and limestone. Different soils of the estate modulate the unique character of each wine. The gravelly soil of the low hills lends for fruitier wines, whereas on the top of the hill, argilo-siliceous lands produce more structured wines.

Winemaking Notes: Cabernet Franc fruit is harvested by hand from organically farmed, 40-year-old vines. A 20-day, spontaneous fermentation occurs in open concrete tanks with indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged for 24 months in concrete tanks. The Gabare Chinon is lightly filtered and unfined.

Tasting Notes: The wines of Domaine Grosbois are true bistro wines: food friendly and easy to drink with a succulent complexity. Not a lot of pretension, not a lot of cosmetic surgery—just fresh fruit and a whole lot of personality. Cab Franc's classic note of green pepper on the nose reveal this wine's DNA, but the Gabare Cabernet Franc delivers far more depth, with enticing layers of blackcurrants and dark berries and an elegant, silky tannic structure. The finish is mineral driven and clean. The Gabare is stunning example of a fresh, rich Chinon bursting with life. Drink now!

"From 40-year-old vines and aged eight months in concrete tank. Inky purple. The nose is fruity but elegant, revealing spice and pepper at the edges. Round and juicy on the palate. There’s something pure and clean here, linear, with just a hint of chalk to carry the finish. Attractive and elegant."

From a 16-acre vineyard, this wine is fresh, perfumed while also smooth and graceful. Its acidity is still young as are the black-currant flavors, and the wine needs time. It will develop well giving a rich wine from 2021.
