The Admiral Rodney series of rare and matured rums are handcrafted at St. Lucia Distillers using traditional methods and an unbreakable commitment to quality. All Admiral Rodney rums are distilled using the distillery's 45-plate Coffey still, which was commissioned in 1984. Admiral Rodney rums are extracted from the bottom plates of the Coffey still as these distillates have the balance of flavors which enable a long maturation period to provide intensity and complexity. All of the rums are aged in old bourbon barrels. The only difference between the three is their age statement. Each individual expression shows the meticulous talents of the St. Lucia Distiller’s Master Blender Evanus Harris.
Distillation & Aging: Admiral Rodney Royal Oak is the original Admiral Rodney blend of Coffey still rums aged in used American white oak bourbon casks for a minimum of 7 to 12 years in tropical heat, which significantly speeds up maturation.
Tasting Notes: This rum has a bright amber color with a nose of prunes, raisin fruit, toasty oak and tropical spices. The mouthfeel is intense; enjoy sweet sultana fruit, tobacco and chocolate with vanilla from the oak. The complex finish shows sweet fruit, caramel, and spice.
About the Name: Admiral Rodney is credited for saving St. Lucia from French control. HMS Royal Oak was in the vanguard of ships to engage the French in the famous Battle of the Saints. Captained by Thomas Burnett, the Royal Oak maneuvered skillfully and brought to bear all of her 74 guns on the enemy for the duration of the battle. With 8 men lost and 20 wounded, the Royal Oak played an integral role in the first skirmishes of the battle.
