Winemaking Notes: Each grape variety and each terroir are vinified separately. Short maceration (one week) occurs at a low temperature (22°C, 71°F) for Syrah and Grenache. Long maceration (three weeks) occurs at a higher temperature (29°C, 84°F) for Merlot with pumping over and punching the cap (pigeage) to obtain more structure. The different terroirs and grape varieties are blended after winter and then aged in concrete tank. The Montrose Rouge is bottled during spring.
Tasting Notes: Montrose Rouge is an elegant and versatile wine. Its soft tannins and fruity flavors make it the perfect wine for an aperitif with friends or for an improvised diner. The nose shows red fruit, blackcurrant and cocoa. The mouth is crunchy and round. Try serving slightly chilled.
Farming Notes: Domaine Montrose is certified HVE 3 (Haute Valeur Environnementale level 3), which is the highest level of France's Environmental Value certification. It is a result of their efforts towards virtuous agriculture: planting 2,000 trees to preserve biodiversity, planting vineyard ground cover, pheromone dispensers, manual weeding, non-irrigated vines, etc. This certification complements their existing carbon neutral approach: to limit their impact on the planet, the Coste family has reduced their CO2 emissions to a minimum. They offset the rest by financing ecological initiatives.
