Wine Notes: This cuvee is Manuel Raventós' personal selection of the best wines of the vintage. It is his personal coupage, and a sparkling wine that, due to its exceptional character, is only bottled in the most exceptional vintages. The 2011 vintage is a selection of Xarel-lo from different parcels. The six years of aging in stacks give it a bright gold color and a marvelous structure on the palate, as well as an enveloping silky texture with a long, bitter finish typical of wines from the Conca del Riu Anoia.
Vintage Notes: 2011 was a warm Mediterranean vintage in Conca del Riu Anoia. A mild winter brought on early budding. The spring was wet, and the rain helped to reserve water in the soil. A dry summer with some punctual rainfall and extremely hot temperatures caused a fast ripening allowing for a healthy harvest. With the right choice of the harvest date, the Raventós family avoided overripe grapes. The 2011 wines show good balance and the ability to age.

"I was quite surprised by the freshness of the 2012 Manuel Raventós Negra, despite the fact that the year was quite warm and the classical Raventós style is perhaps a little riper and fuller than the austere wines produced by others. This is a selection that changes with the year, and in 2012, it's a majority of Xarello with just a pinch of Macabeo. The wine is compact and fresh with some citrus notes intermixed with the strong sensation of the lees—smoky, yeasty and doughy."

"Pungent, mineral-accented poached pear, nectarine, ginger, brioche and honey aromas show outstanding clarity and pick up brown butter and green cardamom nuances with air. Broad and fleshy in the mouth, offering intense orchard/pit fruit flavors that turn spicier and more lively on the back half. Plays richness off of energy with a deft hand and finishes very long and nervy, leaving bitter pear skin and peach pit notes behind. (disgorged after 70 months on its lees and bottled without dosage)."
