Staforte is a selection of the best Garganega bunches from vines ranging between 30 and 60 years old. Graziano Prà has been producing Staforte since 2004. It is a complex and outstanding Soave Classico.

Pruning System: Pergola Veronese and Guyot
Harvest: Manual

Winemaking Notes: The grapes are softly pressed before undergoing fermentation at 54-58 degrees Fahrenheit. The wine ferments and matures in stainless steel vats with regular batonnage (mixing of the lees) for 6 months. Batonnage is automatically done one time per hour using a special paddle installed in the tanks. The wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation. It then ages for at least 12 months in bottle before release.

Tasting Notes: Staforte is rounder than Otto but still delicate and refreshing. The mineral content of the volcanic terrains on which the vines grow brightly shines through on the palate. This is a complex and taut wine with texture, length and crisp acidity. Flavors and aromas are reminiscent of citrus, almond, apricot, white flowers, and apple. Pair Staforte with raw fish dishes, oysters, and lobster. White meat and pesto pastas are also good choices.

About the Name: Staforte is the old name of the town in which Graziano was born: Monteforte d’Alpone.

91pts (2017 Vintage) Vinous 7/11/2019
"Strong notes of pear dominate the nose initially, but with aeration nuances of chamomile and white flowers also emerge. Fresh and lively with bright citrus flavors and mineral nuances, plus a savory edge that adds interest on the juicy, tactile mouthfeel. Long and very precise on the crystalline back end."

91pts (2017 Vintage) Vinous 7/11/2019
"A fresh, light-bodied white, with well-cut acidity defining flavors of Honeycrisp apple, grated ginger and blood orange peel. The minerally, stone-laced underpinning exhibits a subtle, lingering presence on the finish. Drink now through 2023."

Prà makes some terrific white wines from the Soave region. The 2016 Soave Classico Staforte is a case in point. The bouquet shows fine detailing with plenty of citrusy character followed by stone fruit, spice and crushed volcanic stone. This is a lean-bodied white with a good amount of texture and depth to pair with shrimp stewed in coconut milk and lemongrass.
