Based on the principal, Tadashi Matsuda founded Helios Distillery in 1961. He started the distillery making rum from Okinawa's main crop: sugarcane. Over 50 years later, his principal still stands today at Helios for all of their products (awamori, spirits, beer and liqueurs).
As the most southerly region of Japan, Okinawa's unique subtropical climate is home to the distinctive sugarcane.
