Vintage Notes: Cool spring weather at flowering led to very low yields with small bunches and berries in 2015. The summer was warm, dry, and settled which allowed the small crop to ripen beautifully. The cool autumn nights helped retain freshness and acidity. Overall, a great growing season with very little disease pressure and plenty of good weather to ripen the fruit.

Vineyard Notes: This Pinot Noir is sourced from two vineyards vineyard, Omaka North (80%) and Benmorven Road (20%).

Winemaking Notes: The grapes for this wine were hand-harvested and fermented in batches in open top fermenters. Each batch had about 10-30% whole bunch, with the remainder being gently destemmed whole berries. Wild yeast were encouraged to commence the fermentation which lasted 4-7 days. The wine was left on skins for another 7-15 days post-fermentation to build structure and harmonize the tannins. The wine was matured in French oak barrels for 10 months – 20% of which were new.

Tasting Notes: An intensely perfumed nose with high notes of red fruits and florals overlying more brooding characters of dark cherries, spice and cedar. The palate displays dark plums and berry fruits alongside anise and cinnamon spice. The dense spicy fruit is encased in supple tannins, and supported by bright acidity to give a long lingering spicy finish to the wine.

Pairing Suggestions: A great match with gamey meats like venison and duck, or anything cooked over a smoky BBQ. For less carnivorous appetites, try mushrooms, roast vegetables and nutty cheeses.

    Rating: 87 (5/31/2017)

Pale ruby-purple colored, the 2015 Pinot Noir offers notes of crushed cranberries, pomegranate and black raspberries with hint of chocolate box, anise and dried herbs. It fill the medium-bodied palate with plenty of juicy red berry and herbal flavors, supported with modest tannins and just enough freshness.
