Vineyard Notes: The soils on the Raventos estate are calcareous and date back to the oldest period of the Penedès depression some 16 million years ago.The first layer comprises roots of up to 1 meter that live in the clay along with nutrients, organic matter and water. The second layer, from 1 meter down, is where the plant meets the compact clays known locally as galera. The large number of marine fossils that characterize the structure and composition of these soils are the main source of the typical salinity and minerality of the Raventos' wines.

The vineyards of la Barbera, Plana and el Viader have deep calcareous soils with a sand-rich loamy texture which gives the wine its freshness and elegance. All the vineyards are farmed biodynamically.

Vintage Notes: The 2014 vintage began with a very warm fall that extended the energy reserves of the vines. Rainfall meant that the water capacity of the soil was complete. The winter was dry and very warm, causing an advanced budding of the strain. Spring, with vegetative development, was warm and very dry. A vegetative cycle with little water produced a greater concentration in the grapes and a drop in production. Sporadic rainfall in July and at the beginning of August favored a good ripening of the grapes. The harvest was not particularly large but the grapes were of good quality with high acidity.

Winemaking Notes: The grapes enter the winery by gravity. At each stage, the atmosphere is controlled by dry ice. Slow pressing is done at low pressures and static sedimentation at low temperatures. First fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, with all varietals and plots fermented separately. Assemblage and second fermentation takes place in the bottle with a minimum ageing period of 18 months in a horizontal position. Disgorgement date is stated on the back label.

The pale pink 2014 De Nit is a blend of 37% each Macabeo and Xarello with 18% Parellada and some 7% of red Monastrell, from the west-facing part of the El Serral vineyard that adds color without losing freshness. There is no maceration, so the color is subtle, and so is the nose, following the path of the Blanc de Blancs; the basic blend is quite similar and from more or less the same origin. 2014 was a warmish and low yielding year, but the wine is surprisingly fresh with some peach flavors in the finish. The profile is very much the definition of the house style: clean, precise and balanced. A tasty Rosé. It was disgorged after no less than 18 months sur lie.
