Winemaking Notes: Grapes were harvested in two passes and blended after pressing. The wine was left without racking for 16 months in Flextanks and bottled with 15ppm of sulfites.
Tasting Notes: The Nebbiolo crop was down slightly in 2014, but the grape still shines through with all of its racy acidity and bold flavor. This wine is full of tar, roses, spice and mouthwatering acidity. The Piedi Grandi is delicious now, but past vintages have shown that it can age wonderfully, gaining in spice and aromatic complexity.
About the Name: The wine's name stems from the first vintage of the wine, which was foot crushed by Hank's friend and his daughters. The friend, John, is a big dude with big feet. 'Piedi Grandi' or big feet was named in honor of him.
The Feiring Line June 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"Another knockout Piedi Grandi from Hankster. The grapes, as usual, come from the local Sumu Kaw vineyard that sits at 2900 feet of elevation on volcanic loam soils. Hank’s choice was to ferment with 100% whole cluster in fiberglass. Then it was plunked into wood. The wine is alive. Elegant, suede and a hard nut of cranberry fruit in its center, with enough acid to make your trip vibrant and colorful. Of course, it’s even better the next day, and then the day after that, when its exuberance calms down into an intense conversation. Go ahead. Listen to it."
