Vintage Notes: After a mild winter, the spring of 2016 was cool and very rainy, with some hailstorms in April which mainly affected the vineyards of the Bramaterra area. Thanks to the summer sun and the favorable climate, never too hot, in September the bunches had reached a perfect ripeness and on the sorting belt they arrived beautiful, juicy and healthy. The vintage, therefore, although characterized by a reduction in production, promises very elegant wines, with delicate aromas, minerals and remarkable freshness.

Vineyard Notes: The grapes come from the Ormeggio and Castagnola vineyards in the Orolungo area of Lessona and the Covà and Monfalcone vineyards in the Castello area of Lessona. Lessona soils comprise of marine sands from the Pliocene period on igneous rock, mixed with more recent glacial sediment. The soil is acid rich in minerals and trace elements including iron, manganese, aluminum and zinc.

Winemaking Notes: The grapes are manually havested and transferred to small crates. Nebbiolo is harvested in the second week of October. The grapes are sorted while on the conveyor belt, then destemmed and gently pressed, filling the vats by gravity. Fermentation is spontaneous with natural yeast in open wooden fermenters. Maceration lasts 3-4 weeks with regular punching down of the cap. The wine ages in barrique, tonneaux and oval 15-hectoliter casks for 30-35 months. It remains in bottle for some time before release.

93pts (2017 Vintage) Decanter 4/10/2023
“Inviting and seductive nose of sour cherry, cranberry and plum. The palate is subtle and sophisticated with well-concentrated fruit, fresh acidity and integrated tannins with a persistent finish.”
