A Note on the Label Ingredients: You will see "carbonated grape wine with natural flavors" on the label. It's important to Martha to provide transparency about what goes into her wines so she wanted to give some context. "Carbonated grape wine with natural flavors" is the classification given to naturally made spritzers like this by the Federal Trade & Tax Bureau. "Natural flavors" can consist of all sorts of weird things that get added into processed foods, which is why she chose to be radically naked and list out absolutely everything that she put into this bubble bottle of deliciousness.
Tasting Notes: Try it Out Spritzer is fully dry, super delicate, and wildly easy to drink. Aromatics from the Orange Muscat, Meyer lemon peels, and orange blossoms highlight and enhance the base wine rather than mask it. Folks expecting White Claw levels of intensity might be surprised by the subtlety in Martha’s spritzer as a persistent, delightful bubble soothes the palate.
Vinification Notes: The base of Try It Out! is derived from Orange Muscat grapes harvested in August 2020 at Nelson Family Vineyards in Mendocino County. The grapes were harvested by hand and pressed immediately at the winery. The wine aged for 10 months in neutral vessels. Throughout the winter and spring of 2021, Martha experimented with numerous combinations of spirits and infusions before landing on Meyer lemon and orange blossom as the favorite pair.
Try It Out was crafted in collaboration with Hanson of Sonoma Distillery. Organic Meyer lemon peels were put in a giant tea bag to infuse Hanson Distillery's grape-based spirit. A hint of organic orange blossom water was added for subtle aromatics, made by steam distilling orange blossoms. The quality of water used has a big impact on flavor, so Martha sought out the best filtered water she could buy and added it to the wine. Once blended, Try It Out was gently filtered for stability and then bubbled with carbon dioxide from a pressurized tank.
