Vineyard Notes: The Zarate Albariño is sourced from various estate vineyard parcels. About 15% of the vineyards are ungrafted. The vines are pergola trained at a low density of about 1,200 plants/hectare. They average about 35 years.

Winemaking Notes: Grapes are manually harvested and sorted in the vineyard. Fermentation occurs naturally with native yeast in stainless steel tanks. The wine spends 6 months on its fine lees. About 10-25% goes through malolactic fermentation. Malolactic (when it occurs) is spontaneous. The addition of sulfites is low.

Tasting Notes: This is a fantastic Albariño. A fresh sea salt nose blends with citrus and a hint of anise spice. It is quite lovely and balanced.

Textbook Albariño grown on the traditional parral canopy over decayed granite soil. Vines are 35 years old and tend more to fresh minerality in character than simple fruit. This is the easiest of Eulogio Pomares' white wines to track down, but do also seek out Balado, El Palomar and Tras da Viña if you can.

The eponymous 2019 Zarate is their entry-level Albariño, a vintage with structure and acidity, still very young, a powerful vintage with more of everything and probably a long-distance runner. It's varietal and clean, characterful, powerful and with a long, tasty finish, vibrant and almost salty. It was bottled in March 2020.

Aromas of fresh citrus and orchard fruits, chalky minerals and white flowers on the incisive nose. Silky, sharply focused and energetic in style, offering nervy lemon zest, pear and quinine flavors and a spicy touch of ginger. Finishes bright, taut and long, displaying lingering floral and spice notes.
