There are few combinations in the wine world better than Syrah and Viognier. The two grapes love the same climate, soils, and possibly each other. Something magical and unexpected happens when you let the two loose in the fermenters. The sum is (almost) always greater than the parts.

Here we have Syrah from the Fenaughty Vineyard and Viognier from the Sumu Kaw Vineyard. Both sites are situated on the same long ridge of volcanic loam, which runs through the center of El Dorado County. The grapes were foot stomped, co-fermented whole cluster in open top vessels with no added yeast. After a short-ish ferment, the wine was racked to flextanks to settle and intertwine.

The result is a wine with a beautiful deep color, and bold, very upfront fruit aromas. There’s peach, citrus, and herbs. It is medium-bodied and shows lots of fruit and spice on the palate. Moderate tannins lead to a peppery/citrus finish. There’s plenty of Syrah character in here. Drink chilled.
