About Prunelart: Prunelart (or Prunelard) is the parent grape of Cot (Malbec). Largely forgotten in the post-phylloxera era, there are only several dozen hectares of Prunelart left in France, all probably in the Gaillac region. Dark skinned, small and compact, Prunelart grapes make for deeply colored and full-bodied wines with notes of purple fruit and spice.
Winemaking Notes: Fruit is harvested by hand. Fermentation occurs spontaneously in fiberglass and cement tanks with indigenous yeast. The wine is aged in tank with the first racking taking place in February of the following year. This red wine is bottled unfiltered, unfined, and with a very low addition of sulfites.
Tasting Notes: Notes of black and blue fruit show on the nose and palate. The Prunelart's tannins balance nicely with the wine's texture and acid. This is a great bistro wine!
