Soil Notes: Venturi Vineyard is located just north of Ukiah, in the Calpella Valley, on predominantly Pinole gravelly loam soils. These highly regarded soils contain a mixture of sandstone, shale and quartz formed from alluvial flows. Ricetti Vineyard is located in Redwood Valley. The red soils of Redwood Valley and the cooler climate compared to surrounding regions helps preserve the brightness, freshness and juicy fruit character of the Valdiguié.

Vineyard Notes: Larry Venturi is a 3rd generation farmer tending to vines planted on his family's historic site in Calpella (Ukiah), in Mendocino County. Planted in the late 1940’s, this nearly 70 year-old and dry- farmed vineyard is a fantastic plot of Carignane. Tom and Pam Ricetti planted their vineyards in the 1960’s and have been farming their vineyards organically ever since. All farming is certified organic.

Vinification Notes: Each variety was fermented separately. For the Carignane, 2/3 of the grapes harvested were put into tanks as whole clusters. The remaining 1/3 of the grapes were pressed and the rosé juice was co- fermented with the whole clusters in order to reduce the skin to juice ratio. The Valdiguié was fermented carbonically to accentuate the variety’s bright and fresh fruit character. The Zinfandel was hand-destemmed and fermented for two weeks on the skins before pressing. The components were blended after malolactic fermentation was completed, raised in HDPE tanks and bottled in May with 15 ppm sulfur added.

Tasting Notes: This wine is a quintessential bistro wine. There is loads of bright and juicy red fruit on the nose and mouth. Plenty of acid on the attack and a nice bite of tannin on the finish keeps this wine taught and oh-so drinkable. A lighter style that is delicious with lighter meats and vegetable, or straight out of the bottle.
