This pure Nerello Mascalese is produced from Frank's old vine alberello cru Porcaria, situated at 640 m. asl. in the contrada Feudo di Mezzo.
Average Vine Age: 60+ years
Winemaking Notes: Grapes were destemmed and lightly crushed before a 60-day skin fermentation with wild yeast in neutral epoxy tanks. Wine was not fined. It was filtered before bottling with cartridges of 5 micron. No sulfites were added.
Appellation Notes: Some of Frank's vineyards are too high in elevation for the Etna DOP, so he uses the Terre Siciliane IGT for the sake of uniformity.
Tasting Notes: On the palate, the MunJebel Rosso PA is intense and expressive, with sharp acidity and a long finish. Notes of dark fruits and roses with a light oxidative scent.
90pts (2017 Vintage) Wine Advocate 10/17/2019
"The 2017 Munjebel PA is another luminous and bright Etna red with a lean appearance and an almost fragile state of being. The "PA" stands for Contrada Feudo di Mezzo Porcaria, or the name of the vineyard site where the fruit originates. Like the other wines in this series, the bouquet offers pretty floral notes of wild rose and mountain herb, but there are also raw aromas of aniseed, tar and smoke that come from the all-natural approach to winemaking."
