The Genovesi family’s rigorous viticultural work (certified organic since 2014) continues to pay off, as the wines here gain additional vibrancy and definition with each passing vintage. While they certainly were not spared the mildew-related challenges that plagued everyone down south, the 20% reduction in crop was still less severe than the 50% loss caused by the previous year’s frost and hydric stress double-whammy.
Vineyard Notes: The fruit for this wine was sourced from low-yielding, 55-year-old bushvines. Soil in the vineyards is composed of limestone-clay. Grapes were manually harvested in the morning from the end of August to mid-September.
Winemaking Notes: After sorting, crushing, and destemming, the wine was direct pressed with gentle pneumatic pressing. The wine was fermented with selected yeasts at 5 degrees in stainless-steel vats. When quality allows, press wine is always blended with free-run wine prior to élevage.
Tasting Notes: The 2018 Bagnol Cassis Rosé is downright crystalline, with impeccably chiseled fruit and blatant salinity contributing to a sense of refreshing focus. More nimble and sprightly than the richer-toned 2017, this vintage captures the breezy beauty of Cassis itself, and it is hard to imagine a better rosé coming from this zone. As always, this was produced solely via direct-pressing, and aged in temperature-controlled stainless steel on its lees.
