Vintage Notes: 2016 is a superb vintage. It is classically structured and threaded with a nervy, sinewy acidity that keeps the wines fresh and buoyant. The ripeness levels were overall lower than the 2015s; thus, Becker’s production is mainly a compelling collection of Kabinetts and Spätlesen. Becker’s Spätlesen taste drier than many winemakers’ dry wines, especially in 2016 with its fine acids. 2016 proved to be Becker’s smallest harvest since he began producing wine in 1971. The average yields for the estate were about 18 hectoliters per hectare.
Tasting Notes: This Riesling has a perfumed nose that is exuberant, ripe and luscious. This contrasts, somewhat, with the rigor, energy, and precision found on the palate. This is cutting and fresh.
