Vineyard Notes: This vineyard is on a west-facing slope above the fog line on the northern ridge of the Atlas Peak AVA. The Hambright and Guenoc soils are dominated by red volcanic material with lots of flat rock, providing exceptional drainage to the hillside vineyard.
Vintage Notes: Napa’s third consecutive warm winter prompted an early start to the growing season. March frosts slightly thinned what would become a warm, healthy vintage. As harvest started early in August, the weather cooled and fruit quality soared, prompting a balanced and beautiful vintage.
Winemaking Notes: The vineyard was harvested between September 21 and October 1, 2016. The fruit was fully destemmed into open-top stainless steel tanks where, after 3-5 days of cold maceration, the must began to ferment. A mixture of pump-overs and punch downs were done during fermentation. The grapes were pressed after 19-34 days in tank. The wine aged for 21 months in 30% new French oak and 70% in neutral French oak barrels.
Tasting Notes: Black Cherry, Almond, Clove
